Overview
Cylinder sensors are used to detect the open and closed position of pneumatic cylinders. They are attached to the cylinder and sense the internal ring magnet attached to the cylinder’s piston. The housing wall of the cylinder must be constructed of a non-ferrous material (e.g. aluminum, brass or stainless steel). ifm’s cylinder sensors can be mounted directly to cylinders with T-slots and C-slots and can be fixed to clean-line, tie rod, integrated profile or trapezoidal slot cylinders with adapters.
ifm’s cylinder sensors are solid state devices and offer significant advantages over mechanical reed switches. They have an unlimited number of switching cycles, a very fast response time and excellent repeatability. These sensors are designed to “top load" into the slot. A retention tab allows the sensor to be precisely positioned, even in vertical cylinders, until it is locked in place. The unique locking mechanism will tighten if the sensor’s cable is accidentally pulled preventing the sensor from dislodging. This sensor features a bright output LED that is visible from a wide viewing angle.
The T-slot versions will mount into standard T-slot profiles or into ifm accessories for other cylinder types. The C-slot versions will mount into standard C-slot profiles and are offered in flush style (25 mm length) and tall style (17 mm length). The flush style is recommended for standard C-slot cylinders and the tall style is preferred for short stroke cylinders and grippers.
